Swimsuits to Minimize the Postpartum Tummy

No matter how much everyone warned you, the reality of your new body never really starts to sink in until the first time you are brave enough to put on Summer’s first swimsuit. Despite the advice on which colors are the most slimming, when you’re dealing with your postpartum tummy, the truth is that color isn’t as important as style and shape are.

Unfortunately, creating a clever, cunning and still-sexy swimsuit ensemble is eerily like rocket science after the baby is born. Few styles and fashions are truly universal. Though a number of so-called authorities will proclaim tankinis a no-brainer, when we tried them on, we were less than flattered with the results. There are even shape-wear products on the market that claim to minimize the tummy-focus factor, the proof wasn’t always in the pudding. Many of these versions had a flat monotone drabness that actually accentuated the imperfections of shape. We’ve had readers suggest high-waisted swimsuit designs, but these are often hit and miss and depend greatly on variations in size in shape.

In the end, there were a few common themes that united for the absolute best swimsuits in the arena of maximizing the postpartum tummy. So, without any further ado, we’ll shed the light on a few savvy samples.

Be Brave, Take the Plunge

This particular swimsuit style combines not one but two of the greatest secrets for distracting from the postpartum tummy: ruching and a plunging neckline. Both features join forces to draw attention away from your midsection and towards areas that were more… blessed, during your pregnancy.

Richly Ruched

If you lean more towards demure than daring, a plunging neckline may be way outside of your comfort zone – especially if you’re more self-conscious of your body than you once were. If this is the case, a simple ruched swimsuit design may be more up your alley. With this heavy ruching and cute straps, this sleek style is slimming, sexy and just plain fun.

Slimming, Sexy Yet Safe…

If you’re looking for a swimsuit design that’s slimming, sexy and safe, then this swimsuit is exactly what you’ve been waiting for. With a busy triangle-shaped ruching pattern, rich red color and a tantalizing neckline that stops just short of being gossip-worthy, this is the suit for the postpartum mom that knows she’s still One Hot Momma.

Knock ‘em Out With Color-Blocking
Color-blocking is a great way to break things up and distract attention away from less than perfect postpartum waistlines. Look for swimsuits that offer a stark contrast between the colors used in the color-blocks and give preference to suits that also incorporate other slimming swimsuit styles like ruching, plunging necklines or busy prints. The more, the merrier!

Print Ruched w/ Optional Strap
Like color-blocking, busy prints are a great way to distract the eyes from bulges or pooches we’d prefer to disguise. Ideally, look for prints that are large enough to remain distinct, as smaller patterns tend to blend together and create less of a distraction. You don’t exactly what to settle for subtle, here. One of our favorite designs is found on a bandeau design that also incorporates an optional strap that will allow many of you to absolutely fall in love with it.
