During long summers and cold evenings many children will be heard to lament that they are bored. This is especially true for children who have no siblings to play with. Baking is a very fun way to combat the boredom blues and spend some quality time together as a family. All of us will have fond memories of baking chocolate crispy cakes or icing digestive biscuits when we were children. Baking and basic cookery is a life skill that unfortunately many young adults nowadays do not possess. This is why it is such a good idea to start them off as early as possible.
Here are a couple of great starter bakes for kids:

-Volcano Cakes. These cakes are literally overflowing with fun! Cream butter and sugar together the add eggs, flower and baking powder to make a sticky mixture. Kids love getting their hands dirty so get them to roll a large spoonful of the mixture into a ball, place on a lined baking tray and then (the best bit) push their thumb into the middle to make a dip. Add a dollop of strawberry jam in to the hollow and bake for about 10mins. The jam will be very hot in these cakes when they comes out so make sure you let them cool before little mouths taste them! {Full Recipe}
